UNESCO Bangkok launched the publication “Community-Based Lifelong Learning and Adult Education: Situations of Community Learning Centres in 7 Asian Countries” supported by the Government of Japan.
The Study covers Korea, Japan, China, Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Thailand and provides comprehensive education system reviews on how the concept of lifelong learning has been implemented in selected countries through community learning centres.
Three key findings are highlighted as follows:
1. Concept of lifelong learning has partly been embedded in national policies and practices;
2. Lifelong learning for adults and non-formal and informal learning have still less attention;
3. Community Learning Centres have played an important role in expansion of lifelong learning opportunity
The Study provides practical recommendations for improvement in developing the policies and systems that support lifelong learning for all towards the SDG 4.
The sequential booklets on the Role of CLCs as Facilitators of Lifelong Learning and the Adult Skills and Competencies for Lifelong Learning at the community level will be released soon!
We also would like to express our sincere gratitude to the authors, Dr Romee LEE and Dr Jinhee KIM for their valuable contribution to this publication.
